About the Role:

We are looking for a Senior Build Systems Engineer to join our CI/CD - Turborepo team. This team owns the complete end-to-end lifecycle for building, testing, and deploying your projects at Vercel, including maintaining and improving open-source tools like Turborepo and the Vercel CLI. You'll play a critical role in enhancing the efficiency, reliability, and developer experience of our build and deployment systems, supporting both internal teams and our vibrant community of developers.

What You Will Do:

  • Contribute to the design, implementation, and maintenance of Turborepo, ensuring it meets high-performance standards and integrates seamlessly with our deployment platform.

  • Identify opportunities and lead projects to enhance performance, reliability, and developer experience of CI/CD on Vercel.

  • Improve developer experience for both large and small codebases

  • Stay abreast of industry trends and advancements in CI/CD technologies, bringing innovative ideas to the team.

  • Engage with the open-source community, participate in discussions, and contribute to related projects, aligning with Vercel's commitment to giving back to the developer community.

  • Write clean, efficient, tested, and well-documented code.

About You:

  • You have at least 5+ years of relevant experience and 1+ years writing Rust code

  • You have experience designing and maintaining APIs and distributed systems

  • You have strong proficiency in JavaScript/TypeScript and experience with modern frontend development tools.

  • You are intrigued by the challenges faced by building and orchestrating other engineer's code.

  • You have excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment.

  • You have opinions about how to architect scalable codebases

Bonus If You:

  • Are a React or Next.js expert

  • Have experience building ergonomic CLIs

  • Have experience contributing to or participating in open source projects.

  • You have familiarity with frontend frameworks and their build processes.

  • You are knowledgeable about file systems, graph data structures, and software build systems

The base pay range for this role is $180,000.00 - $260,000.00.  This salary range is an estimate. Actual salary will be based on job related skills, experience and location. Pay ranges outside San Francisco may be  adjusted based on employee location.  The total compensation package also includes benefits and equity-based compensation.
