The next era of enterprise technology will be defined by shortening the distance between idea and impact. At Vercel we help companies move faster, turning velocity into measurable business outcomes by anticipating customer needs and owning results end-to-end.
To help us lead in this new era, David Totten is joining Vercel as VP of Global Field Engineering. David brings two decades of experience building and scaling technical teams, and he'll lead a unified organization that includes Sales Engineering, Developer Success, Professional Services, and Customer Support Engineering.

This organizational change reflects a broader philosophy at Vercel: we build go-to-market like a product. Just as we obsess over developer experience in our platform, we're equally committed to crafting a world-class experience for every customer interaction.
By bringing our customer-facing technical teams together, we're creating a seamless technical journey, whether you're a prospect evaluating Vercel or a five-year customer scaling to hundreds of millions of users.
Too often in our industry, context is lost as customers move from evaluation to onboarding to growth. Sales hands off to post-sales, and relationships restart from scratch.
We're closing those gaps. David's organization will ensure that every customer has a consistent, contextual relationship with our technical teams from day zero and beyond.

David joins Vercel from Databricks, where he helped define and scale customer engagement during a critical period of growth. As AI evolved rapidly, he worked with organizations to unlock actionable intelligence from their data while building repeatable go-to-market and customer success strategies internally.
What drew me to Vercel was seeing a company powering the forefront of AI, powered by AI itself.
Before Databricks, David spent nearly two decades at a Fortune 5 company helping thousands of organizations modernize their tech stacks and transform their workforces. As a field CTO, he guided customers on how to drive efficiency and leverage emerging cloud solutions.
“What drew me to Vercel was seeing a company powering the forefront of AI, powered by AI itself,” David said. “Because Vercel isn't simply enabling developers to build AI applications. We’re using AI to deliver better customer outcomes at scale”.
We're already customer zero for our own AI Cloud products:
Our support agent handles over 75% of customer cases despite their technical complexity, allowing our team to focus on high-impact customer engagements.
We've built agents that reallocated SDR headcount by 90% while maintaining conversion rates and improving efficiency. Average touches per lead dropped from 8 to 4.
We're investing in Forward Deployed Engineering to help enterprises integrate AI into their internal operations and customer-facing products.
Using the power and scale of AI to create actionable customer experiences is how every business aspires to lead.
With our GTM Engineering philosophy, we’re building the most AI-forward technical sales organization in the industry. This gives David’s team a distinct advantage: firsthand experience applying AI to transform internal operations and customer products. When we help customers deploy AI at scale, we’re sharing proven practices, not theories.
"I've seen how platforms and data access are accelerating, but also becoming commoditized," David shared. "The real value companies will bring is in how they can serve real-time insights and opportunities to their customers directly in a frictionless, responsive way.”
As AI becomes embedded in every application and agentic experiences become standard, the leaders will be those who treat technical enablement as a competitive advantage, not a support function.
