Econify worked with NBC News to create three digital verticals—MACH, BETTER, and THINK—while developing a new multi-brand design system and a flexible publishing platform to enhance user experience and streamline development. Key innovations included a scalable design system, modular page layouts, a custom-built video player, and a transition towards a React-based framework. The redesign emphasizes adaptability, allowing editors to create dynamic layouts and fostering faster, more frequent feature releases, ultimately paving the way for a network-wide transformation.

Motor Trend’s fragmented systems led to high costs and slow page loads, averaging 24 seconds. To address this, Econify migrated infrastructure to AWS, consolidated systems, and modernized technology using GraphQL, React, and Ad.js. The overhaul drastically improved site speed, boosting performance by 650%, ad viewability by up to 400%, and pages per visit by 20%. The resulting system enhanced ad revenue, while costs dropped over 90%. These changes positioned Motor Trend as the fastest media website online at the time and set off a performance war with other top tier media companies.

Econify partnered with ViX to relaunch 5+ of their streaming applications under one brand. During that time we scaled the backend to support over 800,000 requests per minute, reduced their application size by 5MB (resulting in over 4 seconds of latency reduction and a 50% improvement in Google PageSpeed performance), and won Apple TV App of the Year 2022, Google Play Best App in Mexico, and the 2022 Users’ Choice Award through their iOS and Android teams. These efforts collectively enhanced user experience and positioned ViX as a leading streaming platform.

Hearst Newspapers engaged Econify to re-platform over 50 of their local digital news brands such as SFGate, SF Chronicle, and Chron in an effort to modernize their web technology stack and help them deliver trusted local news with an outstanding user experience. Econify architected a cutting edge, cloud-native solution with Next.js, GraphQL, AWS, and more, bringing theming, page rendering, and tooling for multiple web properties under one umbrella. As a result, our client is enjoying more advertiser revenue, seeing better webpage performance, and has a sustainable and scalable tech stack for future growth.
